Fresh off the heels of raising their millionth dollar for the war on cancer, GIVETOLIVE (www.givetolive.ca) is announcing yet another epic charity cycle.  Now in its 4th year, GIVETOLIVE’s “Cycle for Life – Celebrate Life” is aiming to attract another 60+ cyclists to join this 2-week journey of a lifetime that will take them on a relay-style cycle from Vancouver, British Columbia to Austin, Texas.  Departing October 11th, this year’s 4,000km trek will pass through some of the most breathtaking scenery on the continent including the mountains of Montana, Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Tetons, and the Colorado Rockies.

Said organizer Ashley Ward, “We are so grateful to all those that helped us raise our first million dollars.  But there is still much work to do and we need to be resilient in our efforts to combat this illness that is claiming more than 8 million lives per year.”

In the last 3 years, GIVETOLIVE has inspired over 100 riders to participate in various cycles for all skill levels.  “Almost half of our riders were beginners when they signed up.  All it took was the courage to take that first step, the passion to join the war on cancer, and the heart to just keep pedaling,” said volunteer Todd McDonald.  “You can’t pay for the type of emotion you will experience on a ride like this. It changes you in ways that are hard to describe.  Everyone needs an adventure like this at least once in their lifetime.”

To participate, each rider must raise a minimum of $5,000, be capable of cycling 100kms per day, and get themselves and their bike to the starting point in Vancouver, British Columbia.  As an incentive, the top fundraiser will be given the opportunity to meet and cycle with Lance Armstrong and all cyclists will participate in Mr. Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG Challenge (www.livestrong.org), a 1-day cycle with over 3,000 participants from all over the world.

GIVETOLIVE will donate the funds raised in this year’s event to four worthy organizations battling various forms of cancer, including the Lance Armstrong Foundation (www.laf.org), Ovarian Cancer Canada (www.ovariancanada.org), Craig’s Cause for Pancreatic Cancer (www.craigscause.ca), and The Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca).

GIVETOLIVE is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to ending unnecessary disease and illness by inspiring people to lead healthy and happy lives through exercise, altruism, and achieving the extraordinary.  Learn more at www.givetolive.ca or by attending an open information session at The Split Crow in Halifax on February 9th at 7pm.
